Green East sponsored Fakenham's Big Tidy-Up by supplying compostable bin bags (seen below). Volunteers cleaned up litter around the town, making the organisations first event environmentally conscious while residents were eager to see some action happening across the town.
Supported by several local businesses including hi-viz-vests loaned by Steward Safety Supplies, volunteer tabbards and gloves from 'The Big Tidy-Up' campaign and refreshments supplied by Q's coffee bar afterwards, Kay Reeve - owner of Green East was amongst the volunteers who were eager to get going, fully armed with their bags, gloves and litter pickers to seek out all those spots where litter seems to lurk in public places across Fakenham.
In just two hours, teams split up to cover the river side, the town centre and other main roads and public places, collecting around 30 bags of rubbish before re-gathering in the market square for photo shoots by the Eastern Daily Press and Lynn News.
The photo below shows just a few of the volunteers helping to remove the rubbish from the town and clearing away equipment while discussing the possibility of repeating the tidy up in autumn when plant overgrowth dies back revealing more rubbish.

It is hoped that even more volunteers will gather to help keep Fakenham tidy in future. The team of aproximately 20 volunteers that helped on this occasion, were barely able to cover half of the areas that needed litter picking but well done to everyone who took part.
